Potty trained at 8 months? Opinions?

Crazy I know. But, a friend of mine said she started putting her little girl on the potty when she awoke, before nap, after, etc. each day for about 2 min whether she went or not and the baby hasn't had a dirty diaper in 2 weeks. It's amazing. I can't decide if I dare try it with Fin. What do you guys think?

As nice as it would be to not have to change diapers, I think that is more potty training the Mom and not the kid. Just my personal opinion.....

That cracks me up Rach. yeah it might be more work than it's worth.

It is actually NOT a lot of work, I promise. I didn't have to do anything but put her on the toilet several times a day and she picked up on it. Babies are really smart! I started with putting her on there when I could tell she was going to (ya know) because I figured why wait and then have to change a poopy diaper. (I use cloth diapers.) Seriously, in less than one week she was waiting to go #2 in the toilet. It has now been 4 weeks and I have changed one poopy diaper. And she loves it. She gets all excited when I put her on the tiolet - flapping her arms and squealing. It's so cute. As far as it being me that is trained, well, it is both of us working together that's for sure.

Sounds encouraging, but can you keep up with it. The issue is we'll you put the baby on the potty or sew? I'm not sure I would keep up with it, but knowing of the great reward I might be more diligent than I think. GO FOR IT!

I think it may work for some babies and maybe not for others. Just like kids... all babies are different. I am kindof a believer in waiting until my kids are ready, but go for it if you think fin can do it!!!

Maybe I should go for it. I love that Amber said her little girl gets so excited she "flaps". Fin's a flapper too when shes super happy about something.

These comments are cracking me up! :) I still kind of thing the same things about people that do it full-out for pee and everything, running their babies to the potty when they see the cues that they need to go. I don't do that. I'm not determined to getting Sadie totally potty trained as an infant. The reasons I'm doing it are simply this 1) It's more sanitary, respectful, and enjoyable for Sadie. I really believe she prefers it or she would just go in her diaper. 2) It is not a lot of effort and time. I figure I do it about 8 times a day for 2 or 3 minutes. While she's on the toilet it is time for us to play and connect - things I'd be doing with her anyways. 3) It's cleaner for me. I love not having to wash dirty, stinky diapers. And it's awesome to not worry about changing a diaper especially when we're away from the house.

There's a book you can check out about it called Diaper Free Before Three. I recommend it even if you're barely interested.

There you go. Sorry if this seems like I'm trying to convince you. Just want to give the other perspective.

Thanks Amber. I was wanting more info, when exactly are the times you take her? I'm going to try it. When you said she "flaps" I can imagine how happy she is for that time with you and to be proud of herself. It sound great. What do you do when you have to run kids to school, or do errands?

I take her when she wakes in the morning, before and after naps, before and after we leave the house, and before bedtime at night. She always wears a diaper. She pees in her diaper regularly, though sometimes waits to pee for the toilet. If we're out of the house for more than an hour, I will take her to the toilet while we're out just to see if she needs to go #2. I don't her to have to hold it too long. That's it. Oh do it. It works. Each mom knows their own child.
I did it and one daughter has now done it with her three kids, two being girls and one boy. All trained completely before two. My eldest trained by 15mos. completely, silk panties and all. It is mom trained to baby. Those that are successful, just means mom is in
sync with her child. At such young ages they can't even talk, however, you know if they are enjoying or not. You are doing the right thing. You go girl.
